We will have a special Storytelling on Thursday, October 30th. Master Story Tellers: Bob Valentine, & Jay Overton will be in the basement of the library at 7:00pm for a special story telling event.

Mr. Valentine was born in New York City, New York, in 1946. The first of four sons born to William and Mildred Valentine, he was raised in the Midwest. He graduated from the University of Kentucky with the B.A. in History. After military services, he returned to Kentucky where he was awarded the M.A. in Communications. He has taught, performed professionally on stage, on radio and television, and has written for all three medias. He is Senior Lecturer in Mass Media and Theatre for Murray State University. He was Director of the National Storytelling Project at the National Scouting Museum for 15 years. He continues to perform nearly 100 times a year from California to the Gulf of Mexico. His favorite stories are the tales of Mark Twain, and the traditional stories of his father's native Scotland.

Mr. Overton is a native of Illinois, he now lives in Texas "where tales can be extremely tall!: At 6'3", he is a commanding storytelling presence, and his MFA in acting from the University of Wisconsin gives him all the tools he needs to fill a room with excitement and mystery. During his 12 years as Producter fro the National Storytelling Project, he toured an average of 50,000 miles a year and entertained audiences in schools, stages, and on television, including the Nostalgia Channel's Storyteller's Theatre.

Do you know that:

 *  More than eight and a half times as many people entered Kentucky public libraries as attended men’s and women’s basketball and men’s football games (2007 season) at UK, UL, KSU, EKU, NKU, WKU, Murray State, and Morehead State combined.

*  If the amount of books in Kentucky public library collections (8,601,945) were stacked side by side they would cover the entire length of Mammoth Cave , the world’s largest cave system at 365 miles.

 *  Over 120,000 mint juleps were served at the 2007 Kentucky Derby, about one per hour of bookmobile service in Kentucky during the past fiscal year
